In 1997, having finished the chasis for my Escort MK1 race car I turned my attention to the engine. The configuration (essentially Ford Cosworth head
and A8 camshaft, 83.5mm bore x 72.76 stroke and 48mm webers) was scoffed at by the so-called experts who made helpful comments like,
"It will never run" and "Your wasting your time"
We ignored the criticism: Ross built and dyno tested the engine which idled at 750rpm, revved like a sewing machine and held its' own against other cars with
engines producing in excess of 220hp. The following year, 1998, the car won the Taranaki Car Club Speed Championship outright. Ross' engine building and
development expertise provided the secret to the cars success.
